When dissimilar metals are placed in a wet, acidic environment just like your mouth, a battery is created. And to make things worse, the more acidic your mouth becomes, the more powerful the battery becomes!! The use of silver/mercury fillings, gold crowns and bridges, orthodontic “braces”, or any combination of these, in the presence of saliva will create “the battery effect.” These currents are not a normal part of a healthy body, and cause the body harm.

The human brain and nervous system are actually voltage generators that produce measurable voltages in a variety of frequency ranges. This controls everything from our emotions to our motor skills, both voluntary and involuntary. The battery effect of mixed metals in the mouth can cause voltages tens to hundreds of times greater than what the brain produces, and may cause currents and electromagnetic fields that interfere with the brain’s electrical impulses. Any electrical interferences such as these have the ability to cause a myriad of complications both physically and psychologically. Such effects may be related, but not limited to ringing in the ears, blurred vision, balance issues, mood swings, irritability, and hyper-reactive sensitivities…… just to name a few. I have had a couple cases where patients no longer need to wear their glasses after having the metals removed from their teeth!!

The good news is these currents can be measured, but only if you see a biological dentist who recognizes this problem in the first place. In our office, we incorporate the use of a tooth potentiometer device into every new patient examination because if you have dissimilar metals in your mouth, you need to know if you have a battery in there!

And that’s not all. You may be wisely asking yourself, “What is the best way to remove the battery from my mouth?” The simple answer you might think is to just take them out randomly, but this can actually be harmful. The right answer lies in knowing exactly which teeth have the highest currents, and removing them in a “reverse sequential order”. This means the worst offender metal is removed first, then the second and so on, until all the battery is removed from your mouth. We also recommend contacting an acupuncturist to help re-regulate the flow of the body’s “chi” after having your metals removed, too. By doing it this way, we believe it will help the impact on your body be minimized and speed your healing process.

Many dentists perform root canals on sensitive, infected, or painful teeth. But what is the impact of this on your health? Read on to learn the truth about root canals and other options to consider.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a surgical procedure performed by a dentist or endodontist, (a specialist in root canals) on a tooth when a tooth is in pain or dead. It’s a surgical procedure where the tooth is devitalized, or killed, by removing the inside nerve chamber and blood supply to the tooth. An inert material is placed in that canal space inside the tooth and the tooth is filled or capped.

Why a Root Canal?

The intention behind a root canal is to get rid of pain and save the tooth. But if the tooth’s dead, it’s not saving much. Even though the tooth is physically saved, it’s vitality has been removed.

If there’s dead structure in the body it’s known as gangrene, a very toxic situation.

The problem with a root canal is the bacteria and toxins the tooth once the root canal has been performed, are very toxic to the body. It’s internal gangrene.

Why Do People Hate Getting a Root Canal?

People hate getting a root canal because of the fear that it’s a painful procedure. While it’s not always painful, many times it is, so people talk about the pain of a root canal.

When a tooth is sensitive, inflamed, or hurting, that means it’s under stress. The body tries to solve the problem by getting more blood flow inside the tooth because there’s a lot of bacteria, acid, and toxic chemicals. Sometimes a tooth is in hyper-function, or trauma, but the body is trying to heal it the whole time.

In the situation when a tooth is highly inflamed, it is difficult to get the tooth numb, so a dentist has to give many, many injections of anesthesia or shots in order to get a tooth numb.

Why Do Dentists Want to Do Root Canals So Frequently?

Dentists want to do root canals so frequently because patients often go to the dentist because their tooth hurts or it’s sensitive. The root canal eliminates the pain without pulling the tooth.

A root canal procedure is a procedure where the nerve is removed. It’s kind of like going to the doctor where your foot hurt and if the doctor had a surgical procedure where they could just take away the nerves, then your problem would still be there, but you wouldn’t be able to feel it.

So it’s the same thing with a root canal. Your tooth hurts. The doctor removes the nerve and the blood supply in effect killing your tooth. You no longer have an aching tooth. But now you have a dead tooth.

You can’t feel your tooth anymore. But the reason why the tooth got there in the first place is still there.

At BioDentist, we think it makes more sense to heal your tooth than to kill it.

But the reason why dentists don’t do that is because sometimes that’s difficult to do. For example, if a patient isn’t healthy, then their immune response isn’t going to be as capable of reversing or healing the tooth. Or if a person doesn’t have a good diet or has bad habits, the healing process isn’t going to be as effective.

In dentistry, time is money and it’s typically practiced on a high-volume basis. Dentists are not going to take the time to help patients heal their own teeth. They’d rather just surgically mitigate the toothache by just going in and removing the nerve and the blood supply.

At BioDentist, We Save Your Tooth’s Life

At BioDentist, we don’t believe that a root canal is a good choice in any circumstance because it produces long-term toxicity. It’s not worth the immediate stop-gap measure to take someone out of pain in the moment.

Most of the time when someone comes in our office complaining of a toothache, it’s really a tooth that’s sensitive to hot or cold or to biting down.

The first thing we do is discover if your tooth is dead or alive. We would never do a root canal on a live tooth. If your tooth is still alive, we have techniques and procedures that will help reverse the sensitivity and the toxicity.

When a patient comes in with a sore or sensitive tooth, we try to help the body’s own healing potential in order to cure the tooth. That begins with diagnosing what the problem with the tooth is in the first place.

In the case of the tooth that’s sensitive to hot or cold, that sensitivity is indicating that there is an inflammatory or inflammation response inside the tooth. That pain or sensitivity is a signal that there’s a problem that needs to be dealt with.

We approach that holistically, with a whole body approach.

A sensitive tooth is usually has a cavity. We have to go remove the decay that’s in the tooth and repair the damage. The decay environment is filled with toxins. It’s filled with acid. It’s filled with bacteria that are causing the inflammatory response and resulting sensitivity.

We surgically clean out the decay and use therapies and remedies such as ozone, which is hyperactive oxygen. We can also use homeopathic remedies that are good for healing. We treat the nerve endings so that they will heal on their own.

We can also use an antimicrobial compound, which is very similar to an antibiotic, but it’s not like an antibiotic—a pill that you take systemically and run through the digestive system. Rather we put a splash of antimicrobial on the tooth to kill the bacteria that are on that site. There are no side effects.

We want the tooth to be able to use it’s own blood supply to remove the dead bacterial fragments and toxins and heal itself naturally after we treat the tooth the “BioDentist way.”

So the BioDentist philosophy is to save the vitality of your tooth and never do a root canal.

Call Us to Get A Personalized Opinion

If you have a sore tooth and have been recommended to have a root canal, call us to get an analysis to see if we can save your tooth’s life.

We have patients that fly in to BioDentist because they figure that it’s cheaper to pay for the travel and get the best treatment and avoid the cost and pain of a root canal.

If you have a root canal, call us to get an analysis to figure out what you may need to do to get well.

At this point in time there is no excuse to subject a patient to the health risks of mercury exposure. Scientists and doctors all over the world agree that dental amalgam fillings leach mercury into the mouth, yet traditional dentists still use them, mostly based on low-cost and convenience. Mercury leakage is the potential cause of chronic illnesses, autoimmune disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and potential birth defects. Amalgam can release small amounts of mercury vapor that patients absorb by inhaling or ingesting them. Although dental amalgam is currently approved for use in most countries, it is now prohibited in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. If some countries are banning it, you would think all countries would. Unfortunately that is not the case.

The History of Mercury Fillings
In the mid 1800’s dentists from France came to America with a new “filling” material for teeth. It was composed of approximately 50% mercury and 50% other metals (mostly silver with some tin and copper). This new invention seemed like a great way to strengthen teeth and keep cavities at bay. But some dentists opposed them on the grounds that mercury should not be used in the body at all. These dentists tried to enforce this by having the members of the National Dental Association sign a pledge that they would not use this new toxic metal filling material for teeth. However, In 1859 the American Dental Association (ADA) was formed and chose to endorse the use of mercury amalgam, declaring it safe for use. This confusing about-turn was due to facts revealed some years later showing that some members of the ADA held patents on the mercury amalgam ‘recipe’.

One of the most shocking facts is that amalgam fillings are not FDA certified, nor is it certified by the American Dental Association (ADA). Some find this hard to believe. The Dental Association has gotten around the approval process by saying that since the dentist is the final manufacturer of the material, the dentist is the responsible party for any problems that arise. However, the FDA must approve other products used in a dental office, mixed by the dentist at the time of use, but not the mercury. This puts every patient that has mercury fillings at high risk of toxification.

Replacing Your Filling.
There is no safe level for mercury in the body. This means that it is harmful at all doses. It has been conclusively shown that mercury leaks out of the filling over time from the moment it is inserted. Given these facts, one of the first things I recommend to all of my patients is the prompt removal of all amalgam fillings still in their mouths. I use all safety precautions necessary, and follow the IAOMT Protocol. Once the mercury is safely out of your mouth I will replace it with a composite filling, made of biocompatible materials. When making use of biocompatibility, we stock many composite resin materials for fillings and restorations. Other bonding materials are also considered. Composites don’t just fix a tooth, but truly restore it. The filling is completely natural in appearance. They feel and wear very much the way natural teeth do. Obviously nothing is as perfect as original teeth, but you’ll notice a positive difference right away. It’s a great feeling to know that you have a healthy and happy mouth.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask me or my staff. We love educating our patients about our process and ways we might help you live a healthier life by having a healthy mouth.

The Digital Advantage in X-Rays

It has been a wonderful and revolutionary shift to be able to use digital technology. Digital x-rays are one of the most important tools a dentist can use. Not only are digital x-rays better for the health and safety of the patient, they are faster and more comfortable to take. Since digital x-rays can reveal many problems that are not visible to the naked eye, it helps me determine any hidden ailments more precisely. Digital x-rays also track the development of teeth in children that have not yet emerged.

However, my team and I are careful not to subject anyone to unnecessary exposure. Digital x-rays are a lot safer than old-school x-rays.

Why Digital is Safer
Digital x-rays are environmentally friendly and use no chemicals. Since the digital image is captured electronically, there is no need to develop the x-rays, thus eliminating the disposal of harmful waste and chemicals into the environment. This type of x-ray reduces radiation by 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.

How Often Should Digital X-Rays be used?
There has been a lot of concern about unnecessary and over-exposure to x-rays. This is one of the best reasons for a dentist to go digital. It is safer and more accurate. The need for dental x-rays depends on each patient’s individual dental health needs. My team and I will recommend necessary x-rays based upon the review of your medical and dental history, a dental exam, signs and symptoms, your age, and risk of disease.

A full mouth series of dental x-rays is recommended for new patients. A full series is usually good for three to five years. Bite-wing x-rays (x-rays of top and bottom teeth biting together) are taken at recall (check-up) visits and are recommended once or twice a year to detect new dental problems.

How Do X-Rays Work?
Instead of creating an image that must be developed on x-ray film, digital x-ray machines create the image on a special pad that is instantly translated into a digital file. This file is then saved onto a computer where it can be looked at in detail, enlarged, enhanced or even compared to older pictures.

As x-rays pass through your mouth they are mostly absorbed by teeth and bone because these tissues, which are called hard tissues, are denser than cheeks and gums, which are called soft tissues. When x-rays strike the film or a digital sensor, an image called a radiograph is created. Radiographs allow a dentist to see hidden abnormalities, like tooth decay, infections and signs of gum disease, including changes in the bone and ligaments holding teeth in place. X-rays can also look at the bone structure of the face and jaw to determine if there are problems with joint alignment or other issues with the bones of the face. I can easily and accurately compare current x-rays with older ones so that I can spot any irregularities or unexpected changes.

Other advantages include overall portability. Instead of having to make expensive copies of x-ray films, records can be sent digitally to another doctor, dentist or oral surgeon. This can greatly speed up the process of diagnosis and treatment.
